One year my congregation and I participated in a World Day of Peace with one of many organizations worldwide, with thousands of people coming together with the intention of raising our planet into a vibration of peace. Each individual coming together to create a collective makes a difference in changing this world from one being fear-based, to one of Love, harmony, joy and beauty.
We are called to a most important mission right now. Our mission is to BE Peace in the face of greater & greater chaos.
A common question often asked throughout the ages is, “Why does God allow bad things to happen?”
“Why does God allow evil acts in the world?”
What God allows is the evolution of human consciousness. God will not interfere with the choices that humans make, for evolution requires that we grow from recognizing our mistakes and choosing a different way.
Charles Fillmore, when teaching about Order, one of humanity’s Twelve Powers, states that we develop consciousness in a proper sequence: first in mind, which then manifests in physicality, and finally in our affairs.
If human affairs—whether personal or global--are amiss, then that’s our cue that we are thinking amiss. Let’s consider the part we play on the global level.
What is right-minded thinking?
We are evolving from being fear-based to being love-based. Right-minded thinking is heart-centered thinking.
In Unity we interpret the Bible differently than most Christian denominations. Charles Fillmore said that the Bible is a history of the evolution of human consciousness. If you’ve read the Old Testament, and then the New, it is apparent, with a major example of our understanding of what God is, from jealous, wrathful and showing favoritism for a particular people, to a God who is like a loving Father. (Our understanding of what God is has since further evolved, as explained throughout this book.)
I have great appreciation for how scientific research is more and more bearing out the spiritual principles that Unity has taught since the late 1800’s:
-- That individuals are influenced by the collective unconscious, and vise versa, with individuals also influencing the collective unconscious;
-- that our thoughts are how we create our world, individually and collectively – and that we are responsible for our creations.
-- AND that we can change what we are mis-creating when we think, speak, feel and act in the frequency of Love.
Christ taught that there is only one way to be in the world: No matter how you or I are “crucified”, there is only one answer in response: To love so deeply that we may forgive our persecutors, realizing that “they know not what they do”, as they are so blinded by their programming.
In a children’s book by Neale Donald Walsch, called “The Little Soul and the Sun, as Little Soul prepares for his turn on Earth, he decides what he wants to experience while there. He says, “I want to be forgiving. I want to experience myself as that.” Then a Friendly Soul came forward and said, “I will help you to have that experience. I will do something for you to forgive.”
Little Souls asks, “Why would you allow your bright light to become dark and dense to give me the experience of forgiveness?”
Friendly Soul replied, “Because I love you. I will do something really terrible, and then you can experience yourself as One Who Forgives. But please remember, in the moment that I strike you and smite you, please remember who I really am.”
Little Soul agreed, “I promise, I’ll remember.”
Do we remember that we have chosen an era in which to live, that we may be a part of evolving humanity from the events that occur by choosing rightly?
Do we remember that our nature is to Love, and that the greatest act of love is to forgive?
If we will respond to every event on any level, from personal to global, with love and forgiveness, that right-mindedness will change the affairs of the world.
We are in an era of growing crisis. As scary events unfold, it is up to each of us to remember that the Divine Plan unfolding through each of us is toward the raising up of humanity into what we at Unity call Christ Consciousness.
Your only Purpose is to Love, for that IS the Christ consciousness, and forgiveness is the way to express pure, unadulterated Love.
Your sanity & the sanity of a new world depend on it!
We have many tools to help us be centered in Christ Consciousness—meditation being critical. I invite you to have a daily practice of centering in Love & Gratitude, which will allow you to forgive as we go through these trying times.
The following information comes from scientific research conducted by the HeartMath Institute, confirming the effect of Love on individuals and the global collective (Visit HeartMath.org).
HeartMath scientist Dr. Rollin McCraty and his research team designed a global network of sensors to monitor Earth’s magnetic field and its potential link to human consciousness. His research shows a link between heart rhythm coherence, Earth’s magnetic field, and humanity’s collective energy.
It has been found that the human heart has a large electromagnetic field that can be measured at 6-8ft from one’s body. So, when people come together, their fields overlap and thus energetically affect one another. Heart-to-heart communication occurs.
Emotions and the heart go hand in hand. Positive emotions such as love, compassion, joy, cooperation and appreciation, with conscious breathing and focusing on the heart, creates a positive effect that improves Heart Rate Variability (HRV) and heart-brain coherence. Heart coherence Feeds back to brain, creating a “wise mind”.
Heart coherence occurs when there is a synchronization of the heart, the sympathetic and the parasympathetic systems. (In other words, the heart is stable and in harmony, the sympathetic system—ie, fight or flight response for self-preservation—is calmed by the parasympathetic system, ie the relaxation response.) The benefits of coherence include cognitive functioning (ie, remembering, learning, focusing and processing information), increased emotional stability and self-regulation, and more efficient use of our energy, with greater order and harmony in physiological processes.
LIVING THE TEACHINGS
Consider these questions in relationship to how individuals and the collective consciousness affect each other. Write your answers in your journal:
· What is the result when you are fear-based?
· What has history shown us when the collective is fear-based?
· What is the current state of our nation? Of the world?
· What can you as an individual do to make a positive difference?
I was quoting Charles Fillmore on the Bible being a record of humankind's evolution of consciousness.
I really appreciate that you take the time to comment. Feedback is always welcome, whether it stokes my ego 🙄 or more importantly, causes me to ponder 🤔. Thank you ever so much, Jim.
Hey Sandra thanks for the reminder. I thought the part where you said that the Bible is the record of man's evolution of consciousness was pretty good. It makes a lot of sense. Also I love the little soul in the Sun I remember that from what I had discussion groups on conversations in God it was really good.
